Factually any wine brand can take advantage of it with minimal investment. How much does it cost to place an ad in Wine Enthusiast, versus creating content and distributing it through your email and social media? The only time involved with the latter is the man hours, but once created, those networks will remain in place for a long time. And according to a recent Hubspot report that surveyed 900+ professionals, 89% of businesses are either maintaining or increasing their inbound marketing budgets. What you can do to better market and sell wine: 1. Use video as branded content to forward your wine marketing strategy. Branded content, such as video presentations, insight into how to pair wine with food, interviews with wine experts, and showcasing popular vineyards, are just some of the ideas of promoting wise through content and social media. 2. Blog more. If your winery had a special event, write a quick paragraph that covers it. Got sheep grazing in the spring vineyards? Explain how it’s part of you practice and post pictures of the baby sheep. Everyone loves baby animal pics. Is there an exciting new variety being released? Interview the winemaker, and express his passion for it. 3. Use paid social media advertising, such as Facebook. Don’t simply post links to your bottles of wine for sale. In fact, promoting your product on the social network should be a low priority. Use them to listen to your customers, and interact with them. Show them there’s a face behind the company. This fosters trust and increased loyalty. Post a picture of your last wine club event and tag your wine club members. Their friends and family will see that, and it furthers your brand recognition. 4. Monitor your brand. You have a world of wine bloggers, forums, and niche social communities talking about your brand. Visit their site, and comment on their review. Join the forum and do the same.

Although the tactics for each might be different, they should complement each other. Understanding how sales and revenue are related and how to balance your need to increase both helps you market efficiently and optimize your profits. There are 3 main strategies and tips I share on how to increase sales volume with marketing basics. 1. Develop more things to sell. This will increase your sales volume to existing clients, as well as develop new sales markets for additional clients. 2. Have more people selling your products and services. This can be done by adding sales personnel, or by adding partners in selling for you. This is called "partnership marketing" or co-branding. 3. Ask more people for money, more often. You can increase your sales volume by asking for more business, more often, from more people. In a perfect world, you would have an unlimited budget to market your business in order to find new customers and increase sales. You could buy lots of online and offline advertising, run promotions to build traffic in store and online, and launch a proactive public relations campaign to increase your product or brand's visibility and awareness. But this isn't a perfect world. Realistically, most small businesses and even many mid-sized firms have more great ideas on how to peddle their wares than available resources. So where do you start if you are looking for more customers? Learning to generate new sales leads is an essential skill for an entrepreneur. Fact is, it’s true. There are many reasons for it, but none more important than what I want to briefly talk about and then show you(via video)today. I educate people on how to use long-tail keywords, for blogging and YouTube video marketing, and what they are. Although I don’t want to go into too much depth here regarding this ‘low hanging fruit’ of the world wide web, it suffices to say that long tail keywords consist of longer phrases (usually at least 3 words or more)that internet searches are entering in order to find more specific data regarding a particular niche. Here is an example: Short Tail: mortgages Medium Tail: Best mortgages Long Tail: Best mortgages for first time home buyers Because internet users are becoming more and more adroit at searching and finding information online, the floodgates are wide open for any businesses that is able to aggressively go after these ‘longer phrases’ and beat others to the punch. This process of developing a killer small business blog and video marketing strategy, thus dominating your niche via the long-tail keywords, is not as hard as it might sound. It only requires these essential qualities: Think like someone shopping for a mortgage Write home loan friendly content for your blog and videos, Consistency in Post Frequency Business owners and employees have a big problem when it comes to content marketing: they often think like business owners and employees. You may snicker at this but it’s absolutely true. The curse of knowledge can kill anyone’s ability to speak at the level of their audience. In order to overcome this problem, the most important exercise a business owner or content marketer can do for his or her blog is to sit down and write the 20 most prominent questions consumers ask regarding his or her product. These questions formulate perfect titles for blog articles and combined with solid content and regularity (post at least twice a week), a blog’s traffic will quickly skyrocket because of its consumer-centric appeal. If you haven’t ever done this exercise, stop putting it off. It works. Remember: Any question, and I really mean ANY, that a consumer asks regarding a product or service is worth writing about. It’s easy to get lost in the weeds at work. While being heads down has its place, it’s equally critical to look up: to reflect on how things are going, to consider alternative strategies, and to ask yourself the hard, high-level questions. But how can you empower yourself to step back and look at the big picture so you can lead your team more effectively? Unpacking your big-picture thinking into a handful of specific goals will make it that much more actionable. If you want to redesign your product, break down this ambition into more specific actions that have a finite timeline: For example, I want to write a draft for the product roadmap over the next two years, broken up into a hierarchy of themes. Big questions are worth asking but they should be framed in a way that doesn’t feel burdensome or insurmountable. If they do, decompose them into smaller pieces until each one feels doable. Identify a problem and several solutions. If I have big goal, I will generally procrastinate on tackling it unless I immediately choose the first steps. If I want to create a new product roadmap, my first steps may include finding all the various Google Docs and Asana projects where we’ve done roadmapping in the past. Next, I will read them. Next, I’ll make a list of potential features, then group those features into themes. Then, I’ll ensure there’s a specific deliverable and audience for the proposals. Having a time and a place when you know you’ll need to present your ideas (such as at a big meeting) to an audience is a good way to force you to structure your approach. Within each broad subcategory, you can drill down into types of behavior; for example, choosing Buyer Profiles will then let you target DIYers, Fashionistas, Foodies, etc. Facebook shows you how many user profiles you can target in each subcategory, based on their aggregated, multi-sourced offline transaction-based data (or in simpler terms, the number of Facebook users in that category they’ve matched to offline purchasing data). Facebook Advertising Tip #2: Leverage Life Events Targeting Certain types of businesses or campaigns are based on selling to people experiencing certain major life events. Funeral homes, for example, obviously want to connect with people who are planning a funeral, terminally ill, or lost/losing a loved one. Moving services want to get in front of you if you’ve just purchased a new house or apartment. Wedding photographers target people who are engaged. Facebook has pretty much every conceivable life event targeting option, since we tend to post these to our timelines. Facebook Advertising Tip #3: Nurture Leads & Build Loyalty With Facebook Custom Audiences Facebook Custom Audiences are an advanced feature that enable you to connect on Facebook with your existing contacts. Getting in front of your existing customers and app users on their favorite social network reinforces your brand, but also gives you the opportunity to increase lifetime customer value, order frequency, and loyalty. Custom Audiences are created by uploading your customer phone list, or purchaser/subscriber email list in CSV or TXT format, to Facebook. You can also create a Custom Audience based on your site visitors (and specific pages visited on your site), or on specific actions taken within your game or app Facebook Advertising Tip #4: Expand To A Lookalike Audience Lookalike Audiences are a logical next step, once you have a good Custom Audiences strategy in place. Even if you don’t have your own email or phone list, you can mirror your Facebook fan base. Lookalikes allow you to expand beyond your reach but still target people with highly specific profiles, by creating audiences that look like your own targets. If you have neither a list nor a big enough Facebook following, you can still create a Lookalike Audience using a tracking pixel to create a Website Custom Audience to mirror. Facebook Advertising Tip #5: Get Super Granular With Layered Targeting Options The really powerful thing about Facebook ads is in your ability to layer targeting options on top of one another, gradually making your audience more and more specific. An extreme (and hilarious) example of the power of hypertargeting was featured in AdWeek last year, when a marketing pro targeted his roommate with ads so specific the poor guy thought he was being cyberstalked. Yes, you can use combinations of behaviors, demographics, and geolocation data to reduce your audience to as little as one person. Far more useful for you, however, is the ability to match ad creative and offers to smaller audiences created using combinations of data. One is the mindset of the hunter and the other is that of the farmer. The Hunter. The mindset of the hunter is to “Track, Kill & Move On.” Hunters are quick, restless and nomadic. The rapidly assess opportunities and discover rapid solutions to generate sustenance. In sales and marketing this would involve outbound phone calls, networking, and generally canvassing one’s territory for relatively immediate sales.  The Farmer. The mindset and habits of a farmer is to stay in a one location, large or small, and to cultivate over a longer period of time. Farmers are very attune to the weather, the soil and many other factors, any of which could aversely affect his crops in the upcoming months or even years. When times get tough, they have a hard time moving on to new lands like the hunter. But their advantage is that they can feed hundreds of people for months and months when they do their job right and consistently. When developing a complete sales and marketing strategy plan it is important to factor in both types of personalities and tactics. One needs the hunters to find and bring home immediate sales. But it is also important that you have farmers who are tending to those who require nurturing. By doing so, future “crops” of leads will bear fruit.  The Biggest Mistake The biggest mistake that any small business, start-up or corporation could make it to believe that all you need are more hunters to get in more sales. Now that you have a written plan and budget in place, you have to work every day to ensure that these actions are put into place, are doggedly followed through, and that the WORK is being executed. 5. Look For and Develop Co-Branding Partnerships. The fastest method to get in front of more customers is to co-brand with non-competing companies; particularly ones which complement you and which you do the same for them. Promote their services to your database and then get them to reciprocate. The possibilities are endless. A handful of partnerships can place your brand in front of thousands of potential customers that you could have never reached otherwise. 6. Train Your Sales People & Customer Service Personnel. Educate your personnel to become more effective in how they communicate, educate, and sell products and services. Invest in increasing the knowledge and skill sets of your team. There is a bounty of courses, webinars, workshops, books, CD’s, YouTube videos, etc. on the subject of sales and marketing, that there is no longer any reason not to invest in the elevation of your team. 7. Spend Money on Advertising. You have to pay-to-play in today’s business world. Your best paid actions are emailing marketing, Facebook advertising, YouTube advertising, native advertising, webinars, and participating in conventions and workshops to contact prospects in person. 8. A whopping 80% crash and burn. The rates of companies that go out of business have changed little over the past 20 years, the SBA says, and are consistent across a range of industries, including manufacturing, retail trade, food services, hotels and construction. Why do small companies fail and go out of business? The fail to generate enough business to stay in business. The average small business owner does not spend enough time and effort on building a competent and sustainable marketing and sales machine. What can we learn from the colossal amount of failure with small business that we can apply to our own business aspirations? In my 30 plus years as a consultant and entrepreneur, and through my exposure to thousands of entrepreneurs via my company, I have seen plenty. And yes, at surface level the primary reason businesses fail is they simply run out of cash. But trust me -- the cracks in the foundation start well before the brutal day of financial collapse. Many entrepreneurs work hard to discover a point of differentiation then blow it because they do not communicate their message in a clear, concise and compelling manner. I watch many entrepreneurs bleed to death through their failure to communicate, market and sell. Fail to accurately achieve product/market fit where money gets made, and you’re sunk. Entrepreneurs can actually have each of the four above reasons solved, but still miss the business model boat. Many companies go out of business purely because the owner failed to promote and market. The “if you build it, they will come” mentality doesn’t work in an age when consumers can choose from among a multiplicity of options. You have to get your message seen and heard. While traditional methods of advertising are still useful, one of the best ways to market your business is with a website. Even in 2016, nearly half (46 percent) of all small businesses do not have one, according to a report from the research firm Clutch. So just by creating a site, which you can do using any number of self-service platforms, you put yourself ahead of many of your competitors. While you’re at it, set up profiles on social networks where your customers gather. If you invest a minute or so each working day clicking the "connect" button on the "People You May Know" list that LinkedIn posts in your feed you will broaden your network, and you will become known as someone who broadens the network, which is just as important. Remember: Everyone you talk to about business or meet during the course of the business day is a potential LinkedIn connection. Build out your lead list. Spend five minutes a day investigating the connections of your contacts to see whom you don't know personally but would like to meet. Make a note of those to whom you would like introductions. Start first with the "Recommendations," since those are most likely the strongest relationships of the LinkedIn user you are viewing. Ask for the recommendations outside of your LinkedIn account via email or phone. You'll get a quicker answer. (And you'll get the chance to quickly reconnect with your connections.) Post an update. Spend 60 seconds each working day posting an "Update" to your LinkedIn network. Use the daily update to share a link to an article or a video that is relevant to your prospects and customers. Or use the "Pulse" (used to be known as "LinkedIn Today") feature on your LinkedIn dashboard. Each time you post an update you get displayed on the feed of all the people with whom you are connected. But never sell when you post updates. Add value and share expertise instead. The key to success on LinkedIn is investing a little bit of time every working day--not six hours a day for a week straight, then nothing. Do all of this regularly. The maximum total time investment should be 20 minutes a day, not including developing your 30-Second Commercial (which you should finish before you even log into LinkedIn.) As a salesperson, you can personalize your sales process to the buyer’s context by understanding the buyer’s journey. What is the buyer’s journey? The buyer’s journey is the process buyers go through to become aware of, evaluate, and purchase a new product or service. The journey is a three-step process: 1. Awareness Stage: The buyer realizes they have a problem. 2. Consideration Stage: The buyer defines their problem and researches options to solve it. 3. Decision Stage: The buyer chooses a solution. If you don’t have an intimate understanding of your buyers, conduct a few interviews with customers, prospects, and other salespeople at your company to get a sense of the buying journey. Here are some questions you should ask to put together the buyer’s journey for your company. During the Awareness stage, buyers identify their challenge or an opportunity they want to pursue. They also decide whether or not the goal or challenge should be a priority. During the Consideration stage, buyers have clearly defined the goal or challenge and have committed to addressing it. And we all know that page 2 of Google is death. This is a short, yet comprehensive list of actions which you will need to initiate to increase your website’s rankings on Google in 2018. Create Robust Content Which Favors A Niche. Robust, extensive content for long tail keywords is your best route to success. Your blog can become your secret weapon if you wield it correctly. Publishing many, short blog posts is not the path to ranking success. Rather, find your top 20 long tail keywords and work on creating extensive and professional content. Hire a writer if needed. Robust, well-written content — around your crucial long tail keywords — will drive more traffic. Moreover, you will find that this very content will appear at the top of Google’s search results. High-Quality Links Must Be Built & Earned. Begin with citation links. A small, local business with 100–125 trusted citation links will eventually see higher rankings. After that, I would reach out to local bloggers, fellow small businesses in your area, branding partners, etc. to mention their association with you on their websites — with a link to yours. Google will see that your links are relative, local, and genuine. This is a proven strategy. Paid Social Traffic Is Proven and Fast. SEO can be slow and require much work to have a powerful and lasting effect on your rankings. We have found that when you drive traffic to your website through paid social ads from Facebook, your organic rankings will increase. The amount of traffic to your website, and the time spent on your website, are proven ranking factors. When Google sees that your website not only has more visitors arriving, but is staying on your content for longer periods of time, they will increase your overall rankings. YouTube Is A Killer Ranking Strategy. Google owns YouTube. Google loves Google and would much rather favor their brand’s content than someone else’s within their search results. Just as I recommended with your blog posts, in point No. 1 above, you should also create engaging content with YouTube videos. I have created videos for local businesses, concentrating on long tail keywords for their market, and had them showing up on page 1 of Google in a matter of weeks. Only 8% of small businesses have at least one YouTube video, so this is a genuine, untapped resource to place you brand’s content onto page 1. Reputation Marketing Is So Important. Positive reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and Google My Business will in themselves generate more customers. But Google will also boost your website’s rankings if they see that you have a positive reputation profile across the web. Why? Google wants to ensure that consumers discover local businesses which are proven and trustworthy. The more positive reviews you generate, the more it can effect your overall rankings for your website. Build Your Email List and Leverage It. Email not only keeps your brand in front of people, but it also drives traffic to your website and to your featured content, such as your latest blog post, YouTube video, infographic, or your latest positive review. Build and use your email list to proactively drive traffic to your content. Consistency Is My Secret Weapon. All the actions above done as a one-off will create almost no positive effect. The most difficult task to accomplish in business and marketing is consistency. He sees the numbers growing. “As a matter of fact, two days ago I was in New York with one of our clients who has a foundation about 5 years old and with in excess of $100 million,” he said. “His kids are in their late 20s and 30s and they get a kind of windfall and responsibility and are able to do some good for society.” A new study by the Center on Wealth and Philanthropy (CWP) at Boston College estimates that nearly $60 trillion in US wealth will change hands over the next 55 years. And that excludes the nearly $20 trillion in charitable contributions by generous Americans. About $5.6 trillion of the nearly $60 trillion will be clawed back by Uncle Sam in estate taxes. The massive haul will be shifted from 93.6 million American estates through 2061 — the largest wealth transfer in American history. “No question that the run-up in stocks and appreciation in property has played a role. We see it all the time, clients planning their estates before passing it on to their family,” said Howard Klein, head of the trusts and estate practice group at Citrin Cooperman, who recently handled an estate valued at $80 million. “We try to help them achieve their goals.” The astonishing scale of the pending transfers has caught some analysts by surprise. After all, the financial crisis of 2007 and subsequent Great Recession crushed household assets. “This wealth arose from the unique conditions of post-­World War II economic growth, productivity gains from immigrants and women entering the workforce, and a mindset of saving and investing,” said John Havens, senior research associate at CWP. Not surprisingly, estate and wealth planning is a huge business. It’s practically a full-time occupation for some wealthy families faced with how to preserve and pass on their wealth — and also minimize taxes, according to Klein. That came into public view recently when it was reported how Hillary and Bill Clinton have adopted strategies to avoid paying estate taxes on their wealth. That’s despite having long supported the federal estate tax on inherited wealth that can hit as high as 40 percent. The Clintons are worth from $5.2 million to $25.2 million, according to financial disclosures. “Of course, you’ll never pay any estate taxes if you do one of two things — spend all your money in your lifetime, or leave it to charity,” said Klein.

For instance, the average user has more than 500 friends and likes 150 or more pages. The amount of content being produced keeps growing, while the user’s attention remains finite. The more friends added and pages liked, the stronger the algorithm’s filter power needs to be to determine what a certain user wants to see. The number of times a user logs in per day also matters. The algorithm needs to work differently for a user who logs in once or twice per day versus 20 times per day. Plus, based on where you are, what you’re doing, and whom you’re with, the algorithm has to be smarter because your expectations have increased. The algorithm needs to create an experience that makes users want to come back to Facebook. That’s why Facebook says, “It’s about the user experience.” The longer you stay, the more ads Facebook can show you. The user experience is a long-term play because a good experience is the best way to make money. When you own the system and have the maximum number of users, you also have the maximum amount of attention, and that’s how you maximize ad revenue. The algorithm has to determine how much power a particular post has. The number-one factor is engagement. If the algorithm sees lots of people engaging with your post, then the algorithm shows the post to more people. Your post gets some initial reach in the first few seconds. Maybe 1% of your fans or friends see it. If that engagement is high, more people will see the post. The number-two factor is the content. If other people are interested in the content of your post, it gets a bit of a bump. The third factor is the K factor: whether certain information is hot right now. One weekend each April the Las Vegas Celtic Society throws the Las Vegas Highland Games, a massive festival for the community featuring Celtic music, food, vendors, and athletics. Some of the highlights include: Live Celtic music on our main stage all weekend long. Look forward to seeing some truly unique and authentic Celtic acts featuring bagpipes, guitars, mandolins, and tribal drums. There's plenty of grass seating in front of the stage, so bring your lawn chair (or check out our VIP Tent) Highland Dance Competition on Saturday organized by the Las Vegas Highland Dance Association and sanctioned by FUSTA. Typically we have 80 or more highland dancers of all ages competing to live bagpipe music. This takes place on our second stage. Bagpipe and Drum Band Competition put on by LVCS and sanctioned by WUSPBA. There are 10 to 15 bagpipe and drum bands of varying skill levels competing against one another in our competition area. There is also solo competition for bagpipers and drummers that takes place in the early morning to afternoon with about 100 participants. Scottish Heavy Athletics sponsored by local businesses and put on by LVCS. These guys and gals throw some seriously heavy stuff. The event features throwing weights, putting the stone, hammer throwing, sheaf tossing, and the infamous caber toss (those telephone poles you see them hurling). These are all fascinating to watch and true tests of physical strength. The VIP Tent. Last but certainly not least, we have the best seats in the house. In fact, research tells us that innovative strategies are sparked by “precedents” from unexpected places that seem to offer at least a partial solution to the challenge you have in mind. For example, before they founded Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin were working on how to make the Web more useful for e-commerce. But Page was also working on the Stanford Digital Libraries Project, and realized that you could rank Web pages the way scholars are ranked by their annual number of citations. Howard Schultz was noodling on how to raise people’s demand for high-quality coffee when he was inspired by observing Italians from all walks of life enjoying espresso at their local watering holes. Ford’s idea for the moving assembly line originated in meatpacking plants, where butchers disassembled carcasses moving past them along an overhead trolley. people—not companies—create breakthrough strategies. Breakthroughs go against the grain of accepted wisdom, and markets and organizations are powerful immune systems that throw up multiple barriers to turning new ideas into commercial reality. You’re afraid to change anything, as at the very least, you’re getting some wins. You don’t want to end up back at square one after all of the hard work, effort, sweat and tears you’ve put in to get yourself to this point. Trusting the process in business means building and always looking for the better process, while continuing with the processes you have. At the same time, you’re not satisfied. You know there is more out there for your company, that you’re not at your potential. You’re not complacent for the sake of being complacent, but you’re stuck in the trap of mediocrity. You’re not good enough to be the effective, impacting machine you know you can be; but you’re also not bad enough that you’re considering bankruptcy. Invest in yourself, come up with a game plan that truly does make sense, implement, continue executing, and most importantly, be patient for that result. Business is tough. It requires us to always put ourselves as leaders, executives, managers, and entrepreneurs into positions of fear, uncertainty and unknown. That’s okay.
